Find out what's happening at Timber Ridge Church this week...

Se7en Deadly Sins

Gluttony, sloth, greed...The seven deadly sins have captured imagination in movies, books, and culture for centuries. But why those particular seven when there are so many from which to choose? Where did that list originate (hint: not from the Bible!)? What makes those sins 'deadly'? Join us this Sunday as we take a look at the 'Seven Deadly Sins'.

Annual Fall Retreat

Our annual Fall Retreat is less than three weeks away! Mark your calendars for 2-4 October at Holston Camp. Our theme this year will be Faith and Food as we explore the role of food in the Jewish and Christian traditions and in our own spiritual and physical lives, reflecting on different ethical and spiritual concerns from global and local hunger, to farming, to our own dietary choices. Find more details, and register and pay online at www.trpctn.org/retreat or fill out a registration form in the narthex and return it to Kimra. Deadline to register is Sunday, 27 September.

Morning Pointe Visit

Join us this Wednesday evening (16 September) at Morning Pointe Assisted Living (324 Mt. Bethel Rd.) at 6pm to visit with folks and sing some hymns together. We'll spend some time there and then go to Casa Guerrero on Main St. as a group. Bring some money for dinner and come out Wednesday night!

September Collection Items

Please remember the Greene County Food Bank and Samaritan's Purse collections for the month.

  • Food Bank: Pasta
  • Samaritan's Purse: Ziploc baggies & hard candy

Holston Presbytery Opportunities

Holston Presbytery is the group of 67 churches, including Timber Ridge, in northeast Tennessee, stretching from Strawberry Plains to Bristol to Roan Mountain. Together with the other congregations in the Presbytery, we're able to engage in ministries and help each other out in ways that extend beyond a single congregation. The majority of those ministries are accomplished through committees made up of members of those 67 churches, and YOU have a chance to be a part of that. From helping churches in transition between ministers to planning middle and high school retreats, or assisting ministry candidates in navigating seminary, overseeing Five Cents a Meal distributions to local and international hunger ministries, or offering expertise with budgets or personnel, there are opportunities for everyone in ministry with the larger church. You can read about all the different committees here and fill out a self-nomination form.

Have questions about what's involved or the time committment? Ask any of our folks who have served the Presbytery in recent years, including:

  • Wanda Bowers (Committee on Ministry)
  • Charles Brumley (Committee on Ministry and Camp Committee)
  • Olivia Marenco (Campus Ministry Committee and Youth Council)
  • Brian Wyatt (Committee on Ministry, Preparation for Ministry, Camp Committee, Youth Council)
  • Emily Morrell, Caitlin Crocker, Hannah Crocker, Spencer Morrell, Ethan Carter, Sarah Wyatt (Youth Council)
