Benjamin's Tribe Survives

Rock of Rimmon

Judges comes to an end with a battle between different factions in Israel meeting at Mizpah. The entire book of Judges has been story after story of violent confrontations between groups living within the same land. And the ending of the book gives us no better resolution. After spending a couple of months wrestling with this book and all its thematic repetition, I have begun to wonder if it was included in our scriptures less as a celebration of Israelite triumph and more as a cautionary tale of the cost of that triumph. Most of the overarching narrative of the Bible, and particularly the gospels, run counter to the kind of Machiavellian attitude we encounter throughout Judges. Join us for worship Sunday as we think about the role this particular book of the Bible can play in our own spiritual lives. Worship with us at 10:45 or come early and join the conversation over coffee and donuts at 9:30 as we explore Judges 21:1-14
